Challenges in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes: Implications for Glycemic Control |
|
Program Overview
New research is continuing to improve our knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as well as providing possibilities for new treatment options. These new therapeutic agents may provide additional benefits to address the common challenges of diabetes treatment. Recent clinical trial data have also given cause for reassessing the current treatment paradigm, particularly with respect to the intensity of glycemic control. In this Lilly Diabetes satellite symposium, participants will examine the importance of beta-cell function in T2DM and explore the role and mechanisms of incretin-based therapies in the management of this disease. They will also review data from clinical trials to assess whether intensive glycemic control is advantageous at all stages of disease in all patient groups. In addition to attending presentations that explore these topics, participants will have the opportunity to interact with international thought leaders and peers from the region during scheduled panel Q&A sessions.
