Travel from Ruzyne Airport
Prague Ruzyne Airport, the largest international airport in the Czech Republic, is located about 12km (8 miles) northwest from the center of Prague. The airport is easily accessible by both taxis and public transportation. The airport has no metro or train connection with the city centre and is only served by buses and taxis.
Buses
Three local buses connect the airport to metro stations.
No. 119 goes to Metro Dejvicka - green line A
No. 108 goes to Metro Hradcanska - green line A
No. 179 goes to Metro Nove Butovice - yellow line B
Local buses run between 5:00 and 24:00 approximately every 20 minutes and cost about 10 Kc.
There is also a relatively cheap airport bus which will get you to Namesti Republiky in the city centre. These buses run roughly every half hour during daytime.
Taxi
Another option is an airport taxi. A taxi should not cost more than 600 Kc.
Prague Transportation System
Prague has one of the best public transportation systems in Europe. The metro, trams and buses cover the majority of the city and outskirts.
To move around town, it is recommended to use public transport. The traffic situation in the city center has become pretty bad in the past decade and not many good things can be said about Prague taxi drivers either.
If you're going to be staying in Prague for a few days, you may want to buy a tourist pass that will enable you to use any type of mass transit as many times as you want within the time period for which your pass is valid.
Metro
The Prague metro is fast, efficient, clean and easy to use. Its three lines consist of about 50 km of tracks running mostly underground, and some 50 stations.
The lines currently are:
Line A (Green) - running east to west from Depo Hostivař to Dejvická
Line B (Yellow) - running east to west from Černý most to Zličín
Line C (Red) - running north to south from Ládví to Háje
Trams
Trams (tramvaje) cover a large area of the city and run from 4:30 until midnight at 8-10 minute intervals (8-15 minutes on weekends). Night trams (numbers 51-58) run from 00:30 until 4:30 at 40 minute intervals.
Buses
Buses (autobusy) mostly cover the outskirts of Prague. Daytime buses run from 4:30 until midnight at 6-8 minute intervals in peak hour; 10-20 minute intervals in the off-hours and 15-30 minute intervals on weekends. Night buses (numbers 501-513) run from around midnight till 4:30 at 30-60 minute intervals.
